The Geneva College men’s and women’s track and field teams won both the Indoor and Outdoor Presidents’ Athletic Conference (PAC) Track and Field Championships this year. This comes on the heels of the women's and men’s cross country teams both winning PAC Championships in the fall. This unparalleled season marks the first time in conference history that a school’s women’s and men’s teams both won the cross country, indoor track and field, and outdoor track and field conference championships in the same year, giving the Golden Tornadoes six PAC titles to celebrate.
At the end of February, both teams entered the indoor track and field championships as underdogs to Grove City. However, the Golden Tornadoes surprised the heavily favored Wolverines with the women achieving their first PAC Championship in program history in a narrow win and the men putting together a dominating victory to win their eighth PAC Championship in program history.
The women were led by seniors Hailey Carroll, Carmen Medvit, and Allison Standish, along with junior Daphne Alexander. Carroll won the 800m and mile races, Medvit won the 3000m race, and Alexander won the high jump. Standish posted multiple top four finishes in the throwing events.
On the men’s side, sophomore sprinter Abe Konneh won both the 60m and 200m races, breaking school records in both the events, while qualifying for the NCAA Division III National Meet in the 200m. Senior distance runners Eli Eisenberger and Tommy Corbin, sophomore distance runner Ethan Haring, junior pole vaulter Isaac Nirella, graduate student jumper Jack Garvin, freshmen jumpers Stanford Webb and Amiri Copeland, and freshman sprinter Titus Mathews all posted top four finishes.
In total, 13 school records were broken during the indoor season (seven by the women, six by the men).
Both teams again delivered standout performances at the outdoor track and field championships in May, bringing home two more PAC Championships. Konneh and Carroll were named the Most Valuable Men’s Track Performer and Most Valuable Women’s Track Performer, respectively. Konneh and Alexander both qualified for the NCAA Division III Outdoor National Championship meet at the end of May.
The outdoor season included 11 broken school records (six by the men, five by the women).
Head Coach Phil Thompson was named the Men’s and Women’s Track and Field Coach of the Year for both indoor and outdoor seasons.
Standout Track and Field Athletes
Hailey Carroll ‘26 wrapped one of the best running careers in Geneva history. After missing much of her junior season due to injuries, she returned to form this season and was dominant throughout the year. She helped the women win the PAC Cross Country Championship in the fall, and she was a key performer on the women’s PAC Indoor and Outdoor Championship teams, earning the Women’s Most Valuable Track Performer at the Outdoor Championships.
She qualified for the NCAA DIII Cross Country Championships for the second time in her career in the fall, and she’s close to qualifying for the NCAA Division III Outdoor Track and Field Championships at the end of May. She currently holds indoor records in the 800-meter, mile, and 3000-meter races, along with running on the relay team that holds the Distance Medley Relay record. She also holds the outdoor 800-meter and 1500-meter school records and four of the top six cross country times in program history.
Abe Konneh ‘28 put together one of the best seasons by a sprinter in Geneva history. Arriving at Geneva with little track background, he hoped to walk onto the basketball team. When that didn’t work out, he saw some friends working out at the track and decided to try to join the track and field team.
Konneh had a solid freshman year, but he exploded onto the scene during his sophomore campaign, setting school records in both the indoor 60-meter and 200-meter races, along with the outdoor 100-meter and 200-meter races. He also ran on the indoor and outdoor 4x400-meter relay teams that set new school records, while also running on the outdoor 4x100-meter relay team that broke the school record. Konneh was named the PAC Outdoor Men’s Most Valuable Performer at the championship meet, a vital part of the men’s indoor and outdoor PAC Championship teams.
Konneh qualified for the Indoor NCAA Division III National Championship meet in February in the 200-meter race, and he’s set to qualify for the Outdoor NCAA Division III National Championship meet at the end of May.
