No coach in the Geneva men’s basketball program’s storied history has ever coached or won more games for the Golden Tornadoes than Jeff Santarsiero. He has been a staple on the coaching staff for the past 38 years, serving the last 30 as head coach. The 2025-26 season was his last at the helm of the program, with the program’s all-time leader with 414 wins announcing his retirement prior to the season.

Geneva College Athletics has been blessed with stability over the past 40 years from its coaches. The hallway boasts five coaches who entered the 2025-26 school year with at least 24 seasons in their positions while also standing as their respective program’s leader in all-time wins. Santarsiero was among them.

He originally came to Geneva in 1988 to coach under his mentor, Geneva Hall of Fame Coach Jerry Slocum. When Slocum moved on in 1996, Santarsiero took over the reins and led the program for 30 years, highlighted by his 2023-24 PAC Championship winning squad and his 2000-01 NCCAA National Championship team.

Santarsiero’s legacy goes far beyond wins and losses, though, as he has been a faithful advocate of Geneva’s mission of transforming young people’s lives through the work of Christ. At his retirement ceremony in March, numerous former players came from a long distance to celebrate his work in their lives over his tenure, and many more who couldn’t make it sent in video memories to be played during the ceremony.

"It has been an honor and a privilege to be a part of Geneva College and our basketball program for 38 years," says Santarsiero. "Basketball has given me the opportunity to do things in my life that have been truly special, and I am grateful to Geneva and God for allowing me to share my faith in people's lives both on and off the court."

Santarsiero finished his career with one of the best stretches of his tenure. Over his last seven seasons, his teams posted a 102-71 record while qualifying for the PAC playoffs all seven years, twice advancing to the PAC Championship game, including the PAC Championship victory over Saint Vincent in 2023-24.

"Jeff Santarsiero is one of the most selfless people I have ever met," says Director of Athletics Van Zanic. "Jeff's love for Geneva College, love for the Golden Tornadoes, and most importantly his love for our student athletes is unmatched. He was unwavering in his faithfulness to the mission of Geneva College, and his impact on our students goes far beyond the basketball court. Coach Santarsiero has represented the College and the men's basketball team with class and grace for over three decades and he is leaving some very large shoes to fill."
