Geneva College promised renovations over this past summer at the Brig to enhance the dining experience for students, and those promises were handsomely kept in time for students’ return this fall. The serving area was redesigned and food stations updated.
Craig Lahtinen, associate vice president of project management, explains: “This phase introduced a refreshed serving environment, updated food-service equipment, and improvements that support greater efficiency and flexibility for daily operations.
"More importantly, it created opportunities to better serve students by enhancing both the functionality of the space and the overall dining experience. The success of the project was made possible through a strong partnership between Geneva College and Pioneer.”
“I'm excited for the transformation of the Brig serving area,” says Jim Nescot, food service director at Geneva for Pioneer College Caterers. “This renovation not only improved the aesthetic of the serving area, but also the equipment our staff uses daily. The team has worked hard to adapt to the additions to the program and the new equipment.
"As we continue to move through the school year, we are excited to work on additional menu specials and our retail mix to better meet Geneva student's needs. Pioneer was extremely happy to partner with the College with the Brig renovations that will allow us to continue to evolve the dining program here at Geneva.”
Students are already enjoying the new look and options at the Brig.
“It looks bougier! [It’s] nicer. The flow of traffic is smoother now that they moved the scanner. I miss the meatball subs, but I like the new shoestring fries!” comments Heidi Houser ’27.
Armando Giovanni ’29 agrees, “It looks more clean, and I like how organized the flow is now. [The Brig] still has my favorite foods, and I appreciate the consistent good quality. I get the same wrap every day for lunch.”
Lahtinen concludes, “The Brig is much more than a place to eat. It is a place where students gather, build relationships, and experience community. This renovation represents an investment in that experience. Working alongside Pioneer, we were able to create a dining environment that better serves our students while supporting the staff who care for them every day. The project reflects Geneva's commitment to providing spaces that foster community, hospitality, and student success, and we are excited to see students enjoying the renewed space.”
